Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (RRTC) on Secondary Conditions in the Rehabilitation of Individuals with Spinal Cord Injury

The RRTC is a five-year project federally funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), a division of the United States Department of Education.

Established in 2003 through a $4 million grant, the RRTC produced a remarkable body of knowledge about conditions secondary to SCI and their prevention through exercise.

In 2009, the RRTC received a second $4 million grant to study secondary conditions in SCI patients, including obesity, Cardiometabolic Syndrome, diabetes, high blood pressure, pressure ulcers and skin breakdowns. There will also be a strong focus on SCI patients in the Latino and African-American communities and others who are at risk for receiving poor quality health services.
