MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, DC present "Arm Amputee Symposium - Emerging Technology for the Transradial and Partial Hand Amputee: A Collaborative Rehabilitation Team Approachâ on Friday May 11, 2012. This event will be held in the MedStar NRH Auditorium from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
This workshop will introduce clinicians to the latest in prosthetic upper-limb technologies for transradial and partial hand amputees. Leading clinicians in the field of arm amputation and prosthetic arm training will provide an overview of current commercially available prosthetic devices and discuss effective rehabilitation approaches during the pre-amputation, post-amputation, pre-prosthetic, and prosthetic arm training stages.
Medical management of amputation at the transradial and partial hand levels will be reviewed, along with learning the vital role each discipline plays during the acute medical and rehabilitation stages. Current research indicates recipients of prosthetic arm devices are more likely not to use them if therapy is not recommended at the time the device is provided.
The purpose of this workshop is to expose clinicians to the latest in prosthetic arm devices & emphasize the importance of therapy in training individuals on how to incorporate a prosthetic limb in functional activities.
