   Suzanne Groah, MD, MSPH     


Dr. Groah has been with the hospital since 2002 and has extensive experience in spinal cord injury management and research. She is the Director of the Spinal Cord Injury Consultation and Liaison Service, Director of Spinal Cord Injury Research, and the Director of the NRH Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Secondary Conditions after Spinal Cord Injury.

Prior to joining the NRH team, Dr. Groah was Director of the Inpatient Spinal Cord Injury Program and Spinal Cord Injury Research at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, a Stanford University-affiliated hospital in northern California.

Dr. Groah completed her medical training and residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Virginia Commonwealth University-Medical College of Virginia. She then went on to complete two fellowships at Craig Hospital in Englewood, Colorado. During this time, she was extensively involved in the care and treatment of individuals with spinal cord injury and other neurological trauma. Additionally, she completed her Masters of Science in Public Health at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver. Her Masters work involved the study of bladder cancer in individuals with spinal cord injury.

Dr. Groah has several funded research projects ongoing, including a pilot study examining pulmonary function and body composition in individuals with spinal cord injury after being treated with an oral steroid medication. She is also conducting several studies as part of the Rehabilitation Research and Training Center, primarily focusing on osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease after spinal cord injury.

Dr. Groah is a Fellow of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Additionally, she is a member and serves on committees for the American Paraplegia Society and American Spinal Injury Association. She has written numerous articles and book chapters and has presented lectures on a variety of topics.
