Named by Baltimore Magazine as a “Top Doc” in 2007, Dr. Pitts graduated from The University of Maryland, College Park in 1986 with a B.S. in Kinesiological Sciences with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology. Following many years of success as a fitness trainer, sports instructor and administrator he entered medical school and received his M.D. from St. George’s University School of Medicine in 1998.
His career pursuit in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is a natural extension of his earlier work in human biomechanics and function.
His clinical interests include low back pain, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, stroke recovery and rehabilitation of patients with amputations. From 2003- 2006, Dr. Pitts was a staff physiatrist with National Rehabilitation Hospital at Union Memorial hospital.
During 2005 and 2006, he developed interventional spine skills treating patients in a private practice in Rockville, Maryland. During 2006 and 2007, Dr. Pitts served as the Director if Inpatient Consultations at Johns Hopkins Hospital. In addition, he has contributed to the literature in articles and lectured extensively on topics related to Diagnosis and Treatment of Low Back Pain, Management of patients with amputations and Exercise Physiology.
Dr. Pitts also enjoys the challenges of caring for complex medical patients in the comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation unit.
